Progressive Criminal Justice Reforms

Introduction

The United States has the sad distinction of leading the world in incarceration.  We jail more of our people than any other country worldwide.  Our reliance on mass incarceration originated in our country's racist policies toward people of color.  Over time, Black Codes, Jim Crow Laws, Segregation, morphed into a seemingly color agnostic war on drugs that disproportionately targeted black men.  Add that incarcerated inmates lose their right to vote and you see why mass incarceration is just slavery 2.0.

We believe that local prosecutors and district attorneys can be allies in our work toward fair anti-racist justice.  Prosecutors decide who gets charged.  Bad prosecutors can destroy lives.    Our campaign to end mass incarceration starts in the local courthouse.

Our demands are derived from the incredible work done by the Color of Change organization.
